Tangible spirituality

This project involved the careful preservation of a woollen dressing-gown, that had travelled to Taiwan from Scotland in the late 18th century with missionary Thomas Barclay. It was in poor condition due to climate and age, but some of the damage needed to be conserved. The worn areas at the knees and elbows are a tangible, material trace of the repeated practices of its owner, as he knelt to pray every night.
